About World Insurance Company

World Insurance was founded in 1903 in Omaha, Nebraska, as the World Accident Association. The company began hiring agents in 1925 and became World Insurance Company in 1929. The first general agency was established in Colorado in 1938. In 1943, World mutualized and was authorized to sell life insurance as well as accident and sickness policies.

By the late 1950s, World was licensed in 45 states with 500 agents nationwide. The company's product portfolio included a wide variety of individual hospital, life and disability policies.

Large, career general agencies fueled World's growth throughout the 1960s and '70s. In 1982, the company adopted a brokerage distribution system, and by the end of the decade had more than 5,000 agents. Introduction of an ultra-competitive line of comprehensive major medical products also led to explosive sales increases during that decade.

Diversification characterized the 1990s for World. The company developed new life products, including term, whole life and final expense whole life. In 1997, Mid America Mutual Insurance Company of Roseville, Minnesota merged into World. The merger contributed not only to record financial growth, but also to increases in staff and services.

Today, World is licensed in 46 states and the District of Columbia. More than 11,000 general agents and agents represent the company.

World Insurance Company is solely owned by an intermediate holding company that is solely owned by American Enterprise Mutual Holding Company (AEMHC). The emphasis AEMHC places on maintaining financial strength is reflected in the prudent approach brought to the management of assets across the Enterprise, producing a portfolio that contains a high percentage of U.S. government securities and investment-grade corporate bonds.

American Enterprise Mutual Holding Company (AEMHC) continued to grow and strengthen during 2005. During the year the capital and surplus, on a generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP) basis, grew by almost $25.7 million. At December 31, 2005, the capital and surplus balance was $427.6 million and AEMHC had assets of $1,012.4 million. As of December 31, 2005, AEMHCýs capital and surplus as a percentage of assets, one measure of strength, is 42%.

A.M. Best Co. has upgraded the financial strength rating (FSR) of World Insurance Company (World) to A- (Excellent) from B++ (Very Good). Additionally, A.M. Best has affirmed the FSR of B+ (Very Good) of Mid-South Insurance Company (Omaha, NE). These companies operate as part of American Enterprise Holdings, Inc. (Des Moines, IA). All ratings have a stable outlook.
